Annuloplasty and Heart Valve Repair

What Is Annuloplasty (Heart Valve Repair)?
Annuloplasty is a surgical technique used to repair the heart’s mitral or tricuspid valves by reinforcing or reshaping the annulus, the ring-like structure that supports the valve leaflets. By implanting an annuloplasty ring or band, surgeons can restore proper valve function, reduce regurgitation, and improve long-term durability of valve repair procedures.¹
Heart valve repair, including annuloplasty, is preferred over valve replacement whenever possible because it preserves the patient’s native valve tissue, improves outcomes, and reduces complications.² ³ Annuloplasty devices are available in different designs — flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid — allowing surgeons to select the right solution for each patient and surgical approach.
